BMW Group says it received the “Global New Energy Vehicle Innovative Technology” award at the 2026 World New Energy Vehicle Congress. The recognition covers the Gen6 high-voltage battery, built around BMW’s new round cells with a high-nickel cathode.
The company says the judges looked beyond a single cell metric. Safety, efficiency, sustainability and customer benefit were part of the assessment, while the battery is positioned as a key technology for the Neue Klasse family of electric vehicles.
For EV buyers, that points to a wider industry race than headline range figures. Charging speed, thermal stability, durability and the way the pack is integrated into the vehicle all shape the ownership experience.
