In June, Hyundai Motor presented its largest mobility and robotics deployment to date for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The company took on official mobility and robotics partner roles, extending a relationship that had previously focused mainly on transport.

According to Hyundai, the operation was planned across 16 host cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The fleet included 994 passenger vehicles and 506 buses for teams, officials, media and organisers, alongside four customised Spot robots for autonomous patrol, inspection and monitoring at selected venues.

For the automotive sector, the announcement illustrates a shift from “car as a product” to “mobility as a service”. The most interesting element is not simply the fleet size, but the attempt to combine vehicles, robots and operational data in one event-scale system.
