Subaru says it began battery-electric vehicle production at its Gunma Yajima plant in February 2026. After a line upgrade, the site can build BEVs, petrol models and hybrids within one mixed-model production system.
The first model on the line is the electric Subaru Trailseeker SUV, the brand’s second global BEV. Developed with Toyota, the launch is also Subaru’s first in-house production of a global battery-electric model.
Flexible manufacturing should help the brand respond to different regional demand. The important shift is not only another electric SUV, but Subaru combining its all-wheel-drive and safety heritage with an electric production architecture.
